W Plus: A Hair Salon with a Conceptual Twist

Hidden in the heart of Taipei, W Plus Salon offers a unique and sophisticated experience

Haircut is a homonym of subtraction in Mandarin, and this brings out the design concept for this project- subtracting what is unnecessary to give a new look with a beautiful addition relationship. The W Plus Salon space emphasizes the evolution from subtraction to addition, fully elucidating its new brand's spirit after its nine years in brewing.

W Plus Salon, designed by Millton Yu, is not your typical hair salon. Tucked away in a residential alley in the east district of Taipei, this hidden gem stands out with its innovative design and attention to detail. With the concept of a Lab Garden, the salon offers a progressive and immersive experience that combines art, architecture, and design.

The exterior walls of W Plus Salon are adorned with floor-to-ceiling glass curtains, creating a seamless connection between the indoor and outdoor spaces. As visitors enter the salon, they are greeted by an indoor green garden on a concrete platform, creating a sense of tranquility and natural beauty. The concrete platform cleverly hides the cultivating sight, adding an element of surprise and intrigue.

One of the standout features of W Plus Salon is a cement wall screen that serves as a room divider. This wall is filled with round holes, creating a visually captivating view through the perforations. The interactions between different areas of the salon create a sense of openness and connectivity, while still maintaining individuality.

The design of W Plus Salon is not only visually stunning but also environmentally conscious. The materials used in the space are mostly recycled and renewed, reflecting the salon's commitment to sustainability. The cool color palette, consistent grey and rough textures, and geometric mirrors on the walls all contribute to the salon's modern and sophisticated atmosphere.

W Plus Salon is not just a place for haircuts; it is a conceptual experimental space that can be used for exhibitions, presentations, parties, lectures, and more. The salon's flexible design allows for endless possibilities and encourages the boundaries of different fields to vanish, stimulating new possibilities.

Completed in June 2020 in Taipei, Taiwan, W Plus Salon is a testament to the creativity and vision of Millton Yu. This unique hair salon has received recognition for its exceptional design, winning the Iron A' Design Award in 2021. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. W Plus Salon stands out for its integration of industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and its contribution to a better world.

Experience the evolution from subtraction to addition at W Plus Salon, where art, architecture, and design come together to create a truly exceptional hair salon experience.
